About Granite
Granite is an acidic
igneous rock formed from magma cooling down deep
under the earth’s surface. The main minerals in
granite are quartz, feldspar, mica and hornblende.
These minerals have crystallized slowly under high
temperature and high pressure to form relatively
coarse grains. Granites are generally
light-colored though varying greatly in colors
according to their consisting minerals and
textures. The most common colors include gray,
pink and light green.
Granite is hard and strong, highly resistant to
heat, scratching and stain. It is also durable and
easy to maintain, not to mention its unique
natural beauty. All these outstanding properties
make it an ideal material for kitchen countertops
and other residential and commercial decoration.

About Black Granite
Black granite is a commercial terms for some
varieties of basic rocks. They are dark-colored
igneous rocks geologically known as diabase,
gabbro and diorite etc. Black granite may be dark
gray or dark green in color. Unlike true granite,
it contains little quartz or alkali feldspar.
Instead, it is composed dominantly of intermediate
to calcic plagioclase, accompanied by other
dark-colored minerals such as pyroxenes,
hornblende and biotite.
Black granites are fine in mineral grains. One can
hardly identify the crystal grains by the naked
eyes. Compared to light-colored granites, it is
harder, less porous and of higher compactness,
lower water absorption. Most of its test results
are well above international standard requirements
for granites.
Traditionally, the main use of black granite is in
tombstones and other monumental items. Other
applications include countertops, luxury flooring
and stone carvings.
Black granites of high quality (mainly in terms of
finer grain texture and darker black color) are
relatively rare in the world and resources are
going to be exhausted. In China, quality absolute
black granites are mined from a narrow area of
Shanxi and its adjacent regions of Hebei and Inner
Mongolia. Couple of varieties quarried here are of
the top quality in the world.
Typical test result of China absolute black
granite is as below:
Bulk density 3.04g/cu.cm
Water absorption 0.105%
Compressive strength 218.7mpa
Flexural strength 30.5mpa
Mohs hardness >6

Granite Cleaning and Maintenance
Granite is a hard and non-porous natural stone
and only requires simple care and maintenance in
use.
Sealing: All granite products should be sealed for
easier cleaning before or directly after
installation. You can choose a professional
granite sealant and follow the manufacturer’s
instruction to perform the sealing. You need to
apply the sealant on the surface at least once
every 3 years.
Routine care
--A sealed granite is easy to clean, warm water
and a synthetic scrubbing p0ad is generally good
enough to get the satisfying results, don’t forget
to towel dry to remove streaks.
--Always wipe off any spills and messes
immediately. Otherwise they may become build-up
stains that are hard to remove.
--You may clean the surface with neutral, mild
cleaners or dishwashing liquids. Apply warm water
to rinse and dry with a clean cloth.
--Don’t put hot pots directly on the surface, nor
cutting directly on it.
--If the surface is scratched or permanently
stained for whatever reasons, resort to a
professional stone maintenance agent for help.

back of it being slight higher than the front (2”
drop in norm).
Kerbsets---A set of side and end kerbs and a
tablet, with a cover slab or kept splayed.
Ledger---A large rectangular slab, set flat to
cover the grave surface.
Finishes
Polished---A surface is ground to reach a
mirror-like gloss.
Honed---A surface is ground to be very smooth with
little light reflection.
Sawn---A saw-cut, unpolished face.
Balanced Rock Pitch (BRP)---A natural fracture of
the stone. It is a very rough surface.
Surface finishes

China becomes an important source of absolute black granite
More and more dealers of black granite products
are now importing their goods from China. Such
products include absolute black granite slabs,
black granite monuments, countertops, and stone
carvings.
Traditionally, black granite dealers sourced their
products mainly from India and Zimbabwe. Now some
of them begin to shift to Chinese suppliers for
their sound quality at more affordable price. "The
quality is pretty good and we can save at least
20% in costs compared to importing from other
sources", said Bill Teller, a granite headstone
distributor from Miami, USA.
The exportation has increased at least 30% in the
past 8 months, estimated Mr. Xu, the president of
GHY Granite Co.,
Ltd.(www.black-granite-monuments.com), a leading
manufacturer of black granite memorials in China.
In China, the best absolute black granite is
quarried from a narrow belt located in the
adjacent area of Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia.
Most of the suppliers are of a limited production
capacity though the overseas demand is growing
rapidly. Among them, GHY Granite Company (www.black-granite-monuments.com)
is a typical supplier. As a quarry and factory
based manufacturer, they offer black granite
slabs, monuments, and countertops on a custom
basis.
Having been in this business for more than a
decade, GHY company is now enjoying a speedy
growth as their absolute black granite products
are getting more and more recognized by foreign
clients. For more information about the black
granite products of China and GHY, visit their

Tips for better serving prefabricated granite countertops
Granite countertops from China are getting more
and more popular in the US market, while
competition among local suppliers is increasingly
intensified. How to get around the pricing
competition and maintain or increase a market
share, is now a challenge facing every
manufacturer in China. GHY Granite Co., Ltd. (www.black-granite-monuments.com), a leading supplier of
granite countertops, discloses its effective way
to improve satisfaction of their clients.
Low cost strategy, though necessary, is not the
whole story. High quality and reliable service are
far more important, according to the company's
management. To secure the quality systematically,
GHY Granite has introduced the ISO9001 quality
system in their daily operation. The quality
system has resulted in a continuous improvement
quality of their production and delivery.
To differentiate themselves from their
competitors, they focus their granite countertops
on a selection of granite colors mined from
Northern China. These exotic granite colors are
less popular in the US market than those from
Southern China. Thus enable their clients to earn
a higher margin in their business.
Having a precise fabrication is a key factor to
improving product quality, mentioned Mr. Xu,
president of www.black-granite-monuments.com. Most
of the granite slabs available in China have an
excessive variance in thickness due to the
restriction of equipments. Therefore all slabs
must be calibrated before being used to make
countertops. By doing so, the vertical tolerance
reduces from +/-1mm to under+/-0.3mm. They also
employ computerized waterjet to handle the cutout
and tap holes, while other producers are still
using handy sawn and drill.
To secure consistent color and texture in every
set of countertop, the body and the backsplash are
always cut from a single slab.
Many importers from U.S.A have experienced the
difficulty of sourcing super sized kitchen island
for some projects. Mr. Xu tell me proudly that
they are one of the few suppliers in Northern
China who can handle pieces of 150cm x 250cm or
up.
Thanks to the advantages mentioned above, the GHY
Granite Co., Ltd. has exported more than 80
containers of granite countertops in the past 10
months, about 40% increase compared to the same
period of last year. Their success is based on
their fully understanding of the business. For
more information about the company, please visit
